Astrological Almanac for Saturday, December 18, 2021

(All times Eastern)
The morning can be a fuzzy, nebulous time, and in fact it may linger through much of the day. We might feel isolated emotionally, and look to escape in some way. It’s a good time to use safe escapes like fantasy, art, and other literature.
The Full Moon is at 11:35 pm in Gemini. This Solstice Moon will appear above Orion, almost as if it were his head. So if you have a clear view, look for it. It’s not a terribly active chart for this Moon, which is probably good. We could use some down time. The one nice aspect is the Moon’s trine/Sun’s sextile to Jupiter at the height of the Moon, which adds a nice feeling of generosity and community focus.
At 4:41 am tomorrow, the Moon enters her home base of Cancer. Here she’ll draw our attention more to our feelings and issues of self (and other) care.
At 5:35 am tomorrow, Venus turns retrograde. This happens about every 18 months and lasts about 40 days (give or take a few) each time. It also happens in 8 year cycles; so Venus is going retrograde at about at the same degree in the zodiac (give or take a degree or two) as it did 8 years ago. So you should be able to look back and see what was going on for you in terms of relationships (intimate and friendly ones alike), art, aesthetics, creativity, comfort, etc.) and get a general sense of how it might work out for you this time. However, there is one big difference: today Venus is only a couple of degrees from Pluto when the retrograde begins. She joined him a few days ago, and is still within orb of a conjunction. She will cross him again on December 25, and then one more time on March 3, after going direct. This could make for some intense holiday times, especially if family dynamics are abusive or tense (either temporarily or in general). Both Pluto and a retrograde cycle indicates past issues coming forward again, so unresolved Venus issues will be front and center.
