Astrological Context, Week of August 21, 2023
(All times Eastern)
Remember that these aspects (aside from entry into new signs) will be in effect a few days before and a few days after the exact dates listed here. So keep this in mind when reading the daily updates this week.
There are two major aspects on Tuesday, which work together to make things pretty confusing.
At 8:16am, Venus squares Jupiter. This can bring an overly social focus to the beginning of the week. We may be in “party mode,” even more than is good for us. We may also have overly high expectations of others, especially those close to us, and so we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment if we don’t keep those in check.
At 4:33pm the same day, Mars opposes Neptune. This can bring hesitation in our actions and second-guessing ourselves at every turn. What we believe and what we can do about it may be in conflict now. This aspect is also frequently an energy suppresant. We may feel that we lack motivation, direction, and decisiveness. These two planets are also both connected to poisoning and chemicals, so be careful what you take in now.
While these two aspects don’t interact with one another, we may feel them both in a general way, and it’s possible that both of them tie in to an individual’s chart. The Venus-Jupiter square is right in the middle of fixed signs, and the Mars-Neptune opposition is in late mutable signs. So if you have sensitive placements there, keep an eye open.
On Wednesday at 5:01am, the Sun enters Virgo, marking the beginning of the end of the season. Anything that has been “stuck” is likely to slowly start loosening now. In the North, the harvest is upon us as we slowly prepare for the fall.
Also on Wednesday, at 3:59pm, Mercury turns retrograde in middle-late Virgo. All of the usual warnings should be heeded now: take exctra care with details, give yourself more time for accomplishing things, be patient with yourself and others. With Mercury in their own sign, it may not be quite as bad as it could be, but there will still be some “retreading” going on. With Venus still retrograde, this isn’t the best time for brand new projects, even with a waxing Moon. It’s better to review and revise now.
On Thursday, Mars trines Pluto, which will move that “stuck,” and hesitant energy from the beginning of the week to a more direct focus on action. Though again, with numerous planets retrograde, choose well and stay focused.
On Sunday, the Sun opposes Saturn, bring a focus to where our lives may have less control than we want. Hurdles and obstacles may abound now, especially in our outer/public lives, and we may feel worn down and need extra endurance.
