Astrological Context, Week of December 18, 2023

(All times Eastern)

Remember that these aspects (aside from entry into new signs) will be in effect a few days before and a few days after the exact dates listed here. So keep this in mind when reading the daily updates this week.

The week begins with Mercury trining Jupiter on Monday, which may feel a bit like the Mercury retrograde has eased up a bit for the day. On Thursday at 2:04am, Venus opposes Uranus, bringing excitement to relationships and artistic expression. This may or may not be received well, depending on how solid your relationships are.

Thursday evening at 10:27pm marks the Winter Solstice in the North. The Sun enters Capricorn at the shortest day of the year. Winter is officially here for three months. Light will begin to grow soon, but the coldest part of the season will be next month.

The Sun and Mercury retrograde catch each other on Friday afternoon, again, helping fight the effects of the retrograde for a few hours. We have a chance now for more clarity and for working with details than we will in a while. A few hours later, at 1:17am Saturday, Mercury slips back into Sagittarius, where they already suffer from their incompatibility with this sign; the retrograde combined with this could make the next couple of weeks a bit chaotic.

On Sunday, the Sun and Saturn connect nicely to help make responsibilities feel a bit easier now.
