Astrological Context, Week of December 19, 2022

(All times Eastern)
Remember that these aspects (aside from entry into new signs) will be in effect a few days before and a few days after the exact dates listed here. So keep this in mind when reading the daily updates this week.
The week has a few major events to note. On Tuesday, Jupiter – who has been back in Pisces for a few weeks – returns to Aries, where he loses a bit of dignity, but still does fairly well. When planets change signs, look for shifts in your own life as well as in the world news. Things may move a bit faster now.
On Wednesday, the Sun enters Capricorn at 4:48pm, marking the December Solstice. This begins winter in the north and summer in the southern hemisphere. The days are shortest here, but immediately start getting longer. The Sun will travel through parts of the sky in the next few months that are marked by cold and wet: the Sea-goat, the Water Bearer, and the Fish. It will be a short time before we are able to easily notice the growing light, giving us a bit more time to focus on slowing down and opening to the Dark.
As the Sun enters Capricorn, he will square Jupiter who has just entered Aries. Because this happens within a couple hours of the Solstice, the whole season is likely to be marked by tendencies to overreach, and a lack of moderation. Growth in ways that are inappropriate or problematic may occur.
On Thursday, Venus trines Uranus, energizing our personal relationships while offering a sense of independence as well. Ideally, all members of the relationship can be their authentic selves now and still feel secure rather than threatened by healthy connections.
