Astrological Context, Week of December 5, 2022

(All times Eastern)

Remember that these aspects (aside from entry into new signs) will be in effect a few days before and a few days after the exact dates listed here. So keep this in mind when reading the daily updates this week.

Tuesday sees Mercury square Jupiter, two fairly opposite planets, giving some contradictory energies. Mercury would normally have the upper hand here, being in superior position (lower in the zodiac, generally), but they’re in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s sign, while Jupiter is in his own (other) sign of Pisces. This makes Jupiter far more powerful. In general, there is likely to be a lot of confusion about details and specifics. We may also be quite likely to blurt things out or speak before thinking now, though it’s not likely to get us into much trouble.

A few hours later, Mercury enters Capricorn, leaving behind the challenges of Sagittarius. Our thinking is prone to get clearer and more serious. We may be able to focus more in the next few week than we have in a while.

On Thursday, the Sun and Mars are in exact opposition. This can bring on the urge to fight and confront others, as well as to knee-jerk defensive reactions. Egos may be strong now, and on full display. With Mars retrograde, our actions may not be as productive as we’d like.

On Friday, Venus follows Mercury in squaring Jupiter. We may feel a strong desire to be social and party, which is fine. But we may also have too-high expectations of our loved ones now, so try to go easy.

Again, just a few hours later, Venus follows Mercury into Capricorn, tempering the party mood for a few weeks. It’s a good time to evaluate where things are and make small adjustments.
