Astrological Context, Week of May 1, 2023

(All times Eastern)
Remember that these aspects (aside from entry into new signs) will be in effect a few days before and a few days after the exact dates listed here. So keep this in mind when reading the daily updates this week.
On Monday afternoon, Pluto turns retrograde at 0 Aquarius. By mid-June, he’s back in Capricorn for the rest of this calendar year. It does mean that he sits at 0 Aquarius for quite a bit, dredging up issues for anyone who has a personal planet or point there.
Also on Monday, Mercury crosses the Sun as they move backward in their retrograde cycle. From about 3pm until 11pm today, some of the effects of the retrograde will be mitigated, as a planet that stands at the heart of the Sun re-gains some of its power for a short while.
On Thursday, Venus squares Neptune. This can bring some a real lack of clarity and some wishful thinking about relationships of all kinds. It’s not a good time to make major changes or decisions in this area, if you can help it. Self-delusion may be strong now.
Friday has Venus sextiling Jupiter, which may continue the energy of the Venus-Neptune square just before that. Jupiter’s addition may serve simply to amplify things.
Friday also has a Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio. Like the Solar Eclipse last week, this is ruled by Mars in Cancer, so there’s a cranky, nasty aspect to it. The Sun is with Uranus at this time, so this could be an unsettling eclipse for many. Wherever Taurus and Scorpio are in your chart are likely to have a lot of action going on in the next few weeks, much of it unsettling.
On Sunday the 7th, Venus enters Cancer. While she doesn’t have major dignity here, it’s a more comfortable place for her than Gemini has been, and she is freer to be more romantic and flowy, if also somewhat more moody.
