Astrological Context, Week of November 22, 2021

(All times Eastern)

This week sees a couple of non-lunar shifts worth noting. On Wednesday, Mercury moves into Sagittarius. This is opposite their own sign of Gemini, so it’s one of the less-comfortable places for Mercury to try to operate. Sag is ruled by Jupiter, which is about the big picture, while Mercury is really interested in the details. So here we might miss the trees for the forest. The effects are likely to be similar to a Mercury retrograde period. (For all the bad rap that Mercury retrograde gets, it’s not the worst thing that can happen to Mercury.) So take your time, double check details, and be patient with others who may be experiencing possibly even more acute effects of this period.

On Sunday the 28th, the Sun and Mercury meet up in Sagittarius. Aside from being in Jupiter’s signs (Sag and Pisces), another thing that affects Mercury quite negatively is being combust of the Sun, that is, within 8 degrees. This is true for any planet, since the heat of the Sun “burns up” the energies of that planet. Except for a few hours when the planet stands right at the heart of the Sun, it’s fairly impotent.

So basically, this is not the best week for a lot of detailed work. It may be hard to focus, to study, to sell your goods, and so forth.
