Astrological Context, Week of November 8-14, 2021

This week has a number of major planetary aspects that inaugurate what is going to likely be a more challenging few weeks ahead.
The first configuration is already starting to be felt, and involves a few planets together. Mercury conjoins Mars in Scorpio, while the both exactly square Saturn in Aquarius. These are all exact on Wednesday, and will continue to be felt for at least the rest of the week.
Mercury and Mars together usually make for combative language and debate. Sometimes this is healthy. With Mars in Scorpio now, it’s possible that the cutting side of language predominates, and that “debates” easily turn into verbal battles. This combination, especially when Mars is stronger – as he is here in his own sign – can indicate a lack of truthfulness and a manipulation of language, sometimes for nefarious purposes.
At the same time, these two planets square Saturn, also in his own sign of Aquarius. While the Mercury-Saturn square alone usually indicates a period of challenges to communication, commerce, etc., the Mars will really predominate and Mercury is likely to be subsumed by him. Mars-Saturn are the two “malefic” planets; that is, they both “do evil.” Of course, everything that they do is necessary, it’s just not easy for living things to handle sometimes. But these two bad boys are both in their own signs, so this is a battle of two powerful warriors. Mars has a bit of an upper hand here based on the type of square this is, and we will likely see echoes of the last time Mars was square Saturn – just after Jan 6, 2021. There is a high potential here for cruelty if we’re not careful. We may feel blocked by what is expected and do anything to try to break through that barrier.
The Moon will come across Saturn (and thereby square Mercury and Mars) on Wednesday, amplifying the whole thing. Try to stay calm and look at the larger picture this week. If you feel attacked and are not ready for an immediate escalation, laugh and walk away.
The Sun’s trine to Neptune is exact on Friday, so the end of the week may have a gentler, dreamier feel to it. It could also be the confusion that often follows the Mars-Saturn square and we may be left asking ourselves “WTF just happened?”
On Saturday, Mercury opposes Uranus. This is probably an indication of mental agitation and certainly heralds some degree of unpredictability in our communications and ways of thinking. We may feel quite impulsive, but it’s not the best time to make major decisions. Try to remain open to the new, but beware diving to quickly into a pond that you’re just not very familiar with yet.
